Power Fundamentals

Single-phase power

Single-phase power is AC power delivered through one alternating voltage waveform. It is common for smaller loads and support equipment, but large data center service is normally planned around three-phase systems.

Demand response

Demand response is a customer or aggregator program that reduces load in response to price, reliability events, or dispatch signals. Critical data center load is hard to curtail, but batteries, cooling thermal inertia, backup systems, or flexible compute may create limited opportunities.

Ramp schedule

Ramp schedule is the contractual or operational timeline for adding capacity or load. In data centers, ramp schedules should align utility delivery, construction phasing, equipment procurement, commissioning, customer deployment, and billing obligations.

Cross connect

Cross connect is a dedicated physical or logical connection between two endpoints inside a data center or campus. It can connect customers to carriers, cloud on-ramps, other tenants, or internal network nodes.
